Recently, Donald Trump celebrated the Supreme Court’s typically moronic decision to do away with affirmative action in college admissions. Naturally, Trump would celebrate this since he is a lifelong bigot with an inferiority complex about any qualified black person getting even the slightest “advantage” over a guy who would be lucky to get a job pressing license plates in prison if his father had not made him a wealthy little shit from birth. Just like he demanded to see Barack Obama’s test scores when he himself was a piss-poor student, he said the SCOTUS decision on affirmative action meant we would be returning to a true “merit based” system.
Well, Trump is never correct, and the canard of a “meritocracy” is no exception…
You know who I see shouting the loudest for a “merit-based” system?
—Elon Musk: father got rich off apartheid, and used his diamond mines to fund Elon’s immigration to the states, his education, and his first business.
—Tucker Carlson: father married into the Swanson dynasty that literally owns islands. Tucker himself was rejected from the CIA and his father told him to go into media because “they’ll take anybody.” Of course, Tuck has been fired from CNN, MSNBC, and Fox.
—The Koch Brothers: heirs to a fortune, their John Birch Society-co-founding father having initially gotten rich building oil wells in Stalin’s Russia.
—Warren Buffett (who has cast doubt on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives): made his earliest stock wins off insider trading; his father was a Nebraska congressmen, and insider trading rules weren’t put into place for congress until the last decade. He also procured most of his early clients due to his father’s insider knowledge (they believed—accurately—it gave them an advantage).
It is then not much of a surprise that Trump would say this. After all, this is a man who inherited 400 million dollars from a daddy that bribed his way into Wharton. And even though he brags about going to Wharton all the time, he threatened to sue them if they released his grades—just as all people who believe in a totally “merit based” system do.
Alas, it is a bitter irony that the architect of this decision is Clarence Thomas, a person who has benefitted from Affirmative Action more than any other person living. Ironically, it’s likely the thing he owes his very SCOTUS seat to, as he was nominated for SCOTUS not because George H.W. Bush was just dying to put a sexual harasser on the court, but because he was filling Thurgood Marshall’s seat. [The nation’s first black justice…there have still only been three out of 104.]
Thomas was one of the only black conservative judges they could find who would so thoroughly sell out black people, making him one of the only ideal tokens they could round up. Off the top of my head, I cannot think of a black person who has done more damage to black Americans.
