As the Democratic National Convention kicks into a higher gear, the question on everyone’s mind (at least, those that really only follow politics for the sensationalism…which is pretty much every political reporter and blogger on the planet) is “Will there be an ‘Eastwood’ moment?”
By that, what they’re really wondering is “Will there be a batshit crazy moment when a big-name celebrity embarrasses themselves?”
Democrats may be more intelligent in general, but they’re no strangers to “What was that guy thinking?” fuck-ups. Note Elliot Spitzer, former Democratic Governor of New York, who knew the big banks he was going after were watching him, and still had a relationship with a prostitute. Or John Edwards, the very-married former VP candidate who decided that in-between presidential elections, it’d be a great idea to have sex with a campaign aide, get caught on film doing it, get her pregnant, and then still try to pay her hush money despite the mountain of proof that they’d been together. By the time you get around to Anthony Weiner sending out pictures of his junk on Twitter, you begin to see a very real pattern emerge…
It’s not only possible for Democrats to get caught with their pants down, they seem to want to get caught. They have a strange craving for laying down a trail whenever they do something bad, almost begging to get disgraced out of congress (a hard group to get disgraced out of). So it’s more than plausible that a nationally televised convention…on a stage in front of thousands…with a TV audience of millions…is the ideal place for Bill Clinton to dry hump the microphone stand. Or, to keep it in the Eastwood tradition, the chair beside it.
Here’s hoping he doesn’t. Behave yourself Democrats! These elections for the presidency and to maintain control of the senate are too important to have Joe Biden moon the crowd or Hillary Clinton argue with a desk or John Edwards be allowed within 100 miles of Charlotte…his old district and the wrong place for him to make a comeback, so don’t even think about it John.
Goodness me I hope not. So far so good. If people can’t see the difference in the candidates………..then God help us.
