Okay, seriously Alabama Liberal what is up with all these reviews for movies that no one cares about anymore? Don’t worry, the newer reviews truly are coming. Have a little faith.
What Works: Not much. This White-House-in-peril thriller may have defied all box office expectations but it’s still pretty bad. On the plus side, Gerard Butler doesn’t embarrass himself and he gets back to the Die-Hard-lite roles he’s best suited for.
What Doesn’t Work: It’s too outlandish to be realistic (how the North Koreans, an Army that can barely feed its soldiers, take over the White House is beyond stupid), and too serious to be really fun. Plus, Aaron Eckhart gives one of his worst performances as the distressed president, and a movie is in real trouble when even Morgan Freeman looks like he’s phoning it in.
What I Would Have Done Differently: This movie is garbage, G.I. Joe 2 is garbage, and White House Down will probably be garbage. Three turkeys that deal with a down-White House in only a few months, and yet all of them are/will-be big hits.
If Morgan Freeman cannot save a movie, then enough said. “Super Pass!”
