Just a few minutes ago, the Supreme Court upheld the entirety of the Obama Health Care Law that congress already passed over two years ago. That’s right, they even upheld the dreaded individual mandate requiring people to buy health insurance (so the cost of the entire system will go down, and only affecting about 6 percent of U.S. residents who currently could afford healthcare but don’t have it) by 2014 or face a small fine and/or increased tax…all in order to pay the costs of their healthcare.
I feel like this is good news, but, honestly, I felt it was good news two years ago when “Obamacare” was first passed. Then I felt like it was good news when it wasn’t overturned the first time the Republicans tried. Now I feel like it’s good news that the Supreme Court didn’t overturn it. BUT, Republicans are still vowing to try to overturn it again. I mean, seriously, what the fuck?
Why must this drag out for another decade? The full law (and all of the least popular provisions) will not even go into effect until 2014, and yet there’s been non-stop fighting over it for the two years since it passed. By contrast, when can anyone remember liberals fighting to overturn anything for more than two months, let alone two years?
Why can’t Republicans just quit being sore losers, and, for once, drop the bar fighting routine? Must literally everything devolve into a bare knuckle brawl at Mike’s Dollar Beer night? I know that they have to hate everything Obama stands for and bring congress to a halt so that nothing gets done (all to make him look bad), but damn…
So, here’s hoping we at least get to 2014 before the law is overturned. And at least get to actually see if it works before overturning it. I know, I know, it’s just absolutely radical to actually let liberals try their ideas before they become wildly popular (like Medicare and Social Security), but here’s hoping the law lives to actually go into effect, before being told how unsuccessful it is…two full years before anyone would even know.
It seems to me that certain factions of my own party are headed towards acts of sedition. Mind you, GOP had a GOP majority in SCOTUS. I understood that both sides went into this federal suit knowing that 1 or the other would lose. And that both sides would accept the ruling of the high court – no matter the outcome. That’s how its done in a civilized society. But now that GOP has lost the suit thru a swing vote by a hard core hand picked GOP conservative justice, they act like they want to wage civil war.
