Reporters everywhere were tricked today into thinking that Mitt Romney was actually considering Condoleezza Rice as his running mate. That’s right, I say “tricked” because there’s no way in hell he’ll pick “Condi” and he knows it, but he wants us to think she’s being considered.
“But why?” gentle readers may ask. Well, for starters, she’s black. Now I know that that’s stating the obvious, but somebody has to since most media outlets are acting like that would be a complete non-issue for the Republican nominee.
This Republican Party. The same party that thinks Obama is born in Kenya, is a Muslim, is the anti-Christ, is a socialist, is a Muslim Socialist Anti-Christ with an explicably doctored birth certificate and “an anti-colonial hatred of capitalism” whatever the fuck that is. The same party who heckle him at his state of the union (Rep. Joe Wilson’s “You LIE!”) or on airport tarmacs (Jan Brewer sticking her finger in his face) or call him tar baby or refuse to treat him with a shred of respect befitting his office. Who say he doesn’t even deserve the office since it’s all some ACORN-led conspiracy he was elected in the first place instead of the truth of him winning by the biggest electoral margin since Bush vs. Dukasis. No, I don’t see the same party who put the first black attorney general (Eric Holder) in contempt (the first time that’s ever happened) opening a black running mate for Romney with open arms.
It would sacrifice the racist vote, which, let’s be honest, is going to be a huge, huge demographic for Romney in a country where 1 in 4 white Americans admits they have a problem with a black president, let alone the other quarter who do but won’t admit to it. [Where Romney’s own Mormon church officially believed black skin was a curse from God until the late 70’s…ten years after segregation ended and they still officially taught that all dark skinned people were doomed.]
As a matter of fact, white men are the only demographic where Romney is currently beating Obama and he won’t risk that by picking a black female running mate. No, what Romney wants to do isn’t to pick “Condi” Rice (as her former string pullers at the Bush White House called her), the affable puppet. He just wants people to think he’s considering a black woman, emphasis on the woman part.
See, the ultra-white, rich Romney (who looks like he just came out of central casting for a movie about white collar crooks) will reap the benefits of people think he’s “Democratic” enough to consider someone who isn’t a blue-blood white male, but what he really wants to do is appeal to women voters. It’s no secret that he’s losing big time to Obama in women voters. Just like it’s also not a coincidence that he’s now been “leaked” (by his robototron wife, who couldn’t go off script if her life depended on it) thinking about a female VP when before all we heard about were Rubio, Christie, Paul Ryan, and whoever the hell the Governor of Virginia is. He wants to seem openminded to working with a woman, when it’s pretty clear Romney is way too sexist to actually work with one.
Do I really think Romney will pick a female VP? Doubtful, but possible…barely. Do I think he’ll pick Condoleezza Rice, a black female who has never been elected to office and carries no swing states with her (as Rubio or the Virginia Gov. might)? Not a chance. And for the media to pretend any different is playing exactly into Romney’s—-who looks a bit more like a good-looking Nixon everyday—-cynical hands.
You show how little knowledge of conservatives you have. They like to believe that African American’s are on their side at the moment and all of the problems of the world are coming from illegals. That is why you saw a bozo like Herman Cain get real support in the polls. They would love to have Rice run as a conservative woman on their side (as long as she basically supported them on every issue which might be tough) and they would have no trouble voting for her. At worst, she would be no different than the African American’s who used to speak at Confederate soldiers reunions and talk about how the Yankees were trying to change them.
It also takes the negative history of the Mormon church off the table as a campaign issue which is something I am sure Romney has worried about from the start. Stop buying the hype about who runs the Republican party. The people who really run it believe in only two things, winning and getting paid and Rice can do both for them.
