This week on Alabama Liberal is all about religion, so I thought I’d recommend some great Netflix films I’d stumbled across that talk about just that. There isn’t going to be a whole lot I can add to the topic—one of America’s favorites—but these films just might:
Waiting for Armageddon: A great, brisk film detailing evangelical’s obsession with the end of days almost to the point of willing it to happen. It covers everything from the American evangelical movement donating millions of dollars to Israel to the psychological effects of literally thinking the world could end every year.
Jesus Camp: Covers the indoctrination of children at a young age to be not just Christian (this ain’t no Bible Study) but militant Christian. It’s a little strange to watch an 11 year old talk about his “sins”—probably no more serious than stealing a pack of cookies out of the pantry—and how being born again has saved his soul.
Deliver Us From Evil: Oscar nominated film about the Catholic sex abuse scandal, and the effort to cover it up so some bishops could move up the corporate ladder of Catholicism. It will make you furious after if it gives you the creeps.
Fall From Grace: Detailing the infamous Fred Phelps and his nut job church, which I learned is really just his extended family (one of the many things I didn’t know before watching this informative documentary). This one might be the best of the four.
lmao
I’ve only seen Jesus Camp, but it gave me the creeps
There is noticeably a bunch to realize about this. I consider you made some nice points in features also.
