Sometimes, people ask things like “Why do liberals hate Trump so much? I’m not talking about things he did as President, but think he is a genuinely awful person. Why do they feel this way?”
Trying to explain why Trump is such an absolutely awful person is a task that could go well over 100 bullet points, and I hope my fingers don’t get Carpal Tunnel Syndrome trying to explain it, but here’s a few things that struck me… [This list is in no particular order.]
1. His charity was disbanded for fraud…
2. He has routinely raised money for good causes that he never paid jack squat to, and he did it for decades.
3. His university was disbanded for fraud. Even the conservative National Review had an article titled “Yep, Trump University was a massive scam.” He ripped off thousands of people.
4. His university fraud not only ripped thousands of people off, but Trump was irate at the people suing him, wanting to bankrupt them. He only settled that suit when he was elected President and didn’t want it lingering over him.
5. He has a loooong habit of screwing over people that have done work for him, and routinely stiffing people. Only a week ago, his microphone at a Michigan rally picked up him threatening not to pay the vendors for that rally if there were anymore technical difficulties, and even threatening to sue them.
6. Mark Cuban once made the case that if Trump were an actual good businessman, you would hear people say “He taught me so much. We made so much money together. Making a deal with him isn’t something I regret.” Instead all you really hear is “He stiffed me. He ripped me off. He sucks.”
7. He ran a multilevel marketing scheme called the Trump Network, also scamming people…
8. And he has numerous other ties to multilevel marketing schemes such as being a pitch man for ones like ACN Inc., in addition to making AmWay heiress Betsy Devos his Secretary of Education. Guess how they initially met?
9. Along those lines, he has almost never missed a chance to make a greasy buck at some sucker’s expense including non fungible tokens, various gambling enterprises, ties to televangelists, $400 sneakers, snake oil vitamins, etc.
10. Also along those lines, Trump—a serial adulterer who had his charity disbanded for fraud and has been sued thousands of times for screwing people over—released his own $60 Bible.
11. Also along those lines (whew!) Trump is now getting into the cryptocurrency game with World Liberty Financial, which promises to be a huge conflict of interest if he’s elected President since cryptocurrency has made it plain it hopes to replace the U.S. dollar as the world currency.
12. Also along those lines (I’m exhausted!), he used the clout from “The Apprentice” to save a crumbling real estate empire that then struck lucrative licensing deals for his name to be slapped on projects that often folded. Although various investors were left holding the bag—such as a Trump Tower in Toronto where investors lost money–Trump himself walked away with millions. https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/11/trump-tower-goes-bust-canada-214412/ This happened many times during the “Apprentice” heyday.
13. After Trump bankrupted or lost money on so many various projects (including THREE separate casinos, which seems almost impossible), no serious American bank would loan Trump money, with Goldman Sachs calling him “radioactive.”
14. That last one is a horrible, con man-ish pattern by itself, but it also led him to increasingly shady foreign ties like Russian oligarchs (who used Trump’s American real estate to launder millions) or Chinese moguls (like the two who funded Truth Social)…Speaking of the latter…
15. Trump has repeatedly told his sucker base that he’s “Standing up to China,” but he had a Chinese bank account with 25 million in it, begged them for election help multiple times (like the first impeachment phone call or a separate story by John Bolton), or used Chinese money to finance Truth Social…
16. Even Trump’s $60 Bible is manufactured in China…
17. In fact, even though he routinely promised to stand up to offshoring, his actual businesses have made most of his products in Asia and Mexico.
18. Trump wiped his butt with the emoluments clause of the constitution the entire time he was President, promoting his own businesses at every turn (beginning with his 2016 campaign where he’d hawk Trump Steaks at primary wins OR was actively trying to build a Trump Tower in Moscow at roughly the same time EIGHT separate people in his 2016 campaign were eventually indicted on Russia ties), including sales of Mar-a-Lago property to foreign nationals, or prioritizing power brokers who stayed at Trump’s D.C. hotel.
19. It seems obvious he took a 10 million dollar bribe from Egypt.
20. The book that initially catapulted him to “business God” is “The Art of the Deal” which a Random House executive quipped “not one word of it was actually written by Trump. That’s why it was successful…”
21. The ghostwriter and actual writer of the “Deal” book is Tony Schwartz, who says helping Trump perpetuate his business myth is the worst decision of his entire life, and has called Trump “a sociopath.” He’s said the book should be retitled “The Sociopath,” and recategorized as “Fiction” instead of a non-fiction business book.
22. Trump has cheated non-stop through three different marriages. His first wife filed a credible claim of spousal rape and domestic abuse.
23. Trump himself even told an interviewer that he goes “through the roof” if his wife doesn’t have his dinner ready by 5 p.m. in a wild 1994 interview where he also boasted that he told his friends to “be rougher” with their wives.
24. Trump has many credible claims of sexual assault…
25. In addition to being an adjudicated rapist.
26. Voters seemingly knew this in 2016 as the “Access Hollywood” tape had him confirming his history of sexual assault, and decided to pick a rapist over the first female President. [They may very well do the same thing this year as well.]
27. Infamously pals with Jeffrey Epstein. A young witness who claimed sexual assault against Trump when she was 13 years old was bullied so bad, she dropped her claim.
28. And Trump himself once said “I’ll be dating her in about 10 years” when he passed a random 10 year old girl at the mall.
29. He has repeatedly made comments towards his daughter Ivanka Trump that are inappropriate to the extreme, saying he’d be dating her if she wasn’t his daughter. Stormy Daniels even said that Trump repeatedly praised her as being similar to his daughter Ivanka about 5 minutes before hastily jumping her bones.
30. The Miss USA pageant contestants when he owned the pageant said Trump would make it a point to force his way into the dressing room when they were changing, basically calling him a Peeping Tom.
31. ”Grab ’em by the pussy” tape makes it clear there is at least some truth to the various allegations about Trump, and that he clearly relishes seeing just how much he can get away with as a celebrity.
32. The woman in that tape he’s referring to as trying very hard to have sex with is Nancy O’Dell, who was married at the time…Trump himself was also married to Melania for only a few months at the time he’s referring to, making it clear he had no intention of staying faithful from very early on. Similar to his Stormy Daniels affair happening only a few months after Baron was born.
33. A recurring fetishization with dictators and their human rights abuses, downplaying atrocious actions by Xi Jinping, Kim Jong Un, and especially Vladimir Putin. When Putin committed war crimes in Ukraine by trying to absorb a sovereign country through military carnage, Trump cheered him on initially.
34. (1 of 5) He has repeatedly shown he can screw over even those closest to him; like abandoning his mentor Roy Cohn when Roy was dying of AIDs…
35. Various family strife (his treatment of his brother Fred Trump is still obviously a sore spot for his niece Mary Trump)…
36. Majorly turning on his loyal lap dog Mike Pence when he refused to shred the constitution for him…
37. And the same for Jeff Sessions (who he even campaigned against in the Alabama senate race Tuberville eventually won), same for Mo Brooks (who he also campaigned against in Alabama), and same for Bill Barr…
38. (5 of 5) And letting his personal attorney Michael Cohen take the fall for him. [Trump pardoned Roger Stone, Paul Manafort, Steve Bannon, and Jared Kushner’s father, so he clearly had no qualms about personal pardons—but only for those he could still use whereas Cohen was disbarred and “useless” to him personally.] He has reportedly even stiffed Rudy Giuliani on his 2020 “Stop the Steal” legal fees.
39. He has also repeatedly shown he doesn’t care about the lives of his own cult; such as when he ripped them off for 200 million for the “Stop the Steal” campaign that he actually redirected into his 2020 reelection Super PAC.
40. Not only does he not care about their dollars (which isn’t surprising given his lifelong history of fraud and absolutely dog s*** reputation), he doesn’t even care about their lives. (1 of 10) He proved that with a horrendous CoVid response, which included promoting bogus miracle cures like Hydroxychloroquine, and at one point floating the idea of injecting bleach.
41. More generally, he showed disdain for even basic “track and trace” procedures or acknowledging CoVid was happening in the early months, and punting on a truly coordinated federal government response so the states (mostly) fended for themselves with the Trump administration sometimes bidding against them for medical supplies.
42. He consistently spread CoVid misinformation, tried to downplay the seriousness of the virus at every turn, and frequently fought blue state governors and mayors over common sense CoVid safety measures. Recorded comments to Bob Woodward reveal Trump knew how serious CoVid was all along, but deliberately downplayed it.
43. An obvious example of his hatred of social distancing was holding rallies only weeks after he was dragged out of office—including super spreader events months before the vaccine was distributed…
44. Also during CoVid, he refused to meet with Nancy Pelosi (who he did not speak with after the first impeachment) about a third stimulus, and clearly didn’t feel motivated to do much emergency relief until he could see how the election would turn out.
45. He also made the deliberate mismanagement of the Post Office a priority just to screw up mail-in balloting, this was during a pandemic when necessary medical supplies needed to go out.
46. He did absolutely nothing on CoVid between the election and Biden’s inauguration, pretending him losing the election was the only important thing going on in the country.
47. In addition to CoVid misinformation (I haven’t even mentioned the endless attacks on Dr. Fauci), he’s still spreading misinformation that could get people killed—like right as I’m typing this and he’s doing it about FEMA and the hurricane response.
48. Another example of not caring about their lives can be found earlier this year, when he told Iowa Caucus voters “It’s worth it” if they die, just as long as they show up and vote for him…This was merely one primary/caucus out of 50, meaning the result truly wasn’t relevant, but he was willing to sacrifice their lives just to scare off his primary opponents a few weeks earlier than he otherwise would have.
49. (10 of 10) Perhaps the most infamous example of not giving a damn about their lives is the January 6th rally, where he organized and promoted his followers to show up to stop the certification of a vote he knew he lost. This was the height of CoVid and obviously huge crowds weren’t advisable at that time. In addition, he didn’t pardon these rubes before he left office, even as there’s simply no way January 6th would’ve happened if he hadn’t wanted it to, and he didn’t sit in the White House watching it on TV for hours as it unfolded.
50. He’s told an absolute mountain of lies that would be impossible to catalogue here. The Washington Post estimates over 30,000 in just his time in office, and surely there’s been untold before and since.
51. Has shown only sporadic interest in his own kids, either wanting to have sex with Ivanka or completely ignoring Tiffany, supposedly being uncomfortable around and mostly avoiding Baron because he (allegedly) has Asperger’s, and showing interest in Don Jr. and Eric only to the extent that they commit crimes together.
52. He’s a lifelong narcissist who has tried to slap his name on everything: Trump Towers all over the world, Trump hotels all over the world, Trump golf courses all over the world, Trump casinos all over the country, Trump Magazine, Trump the board game, Trump University, Trump Ice (his bottle water brand), Trump vodka, Trumptini (his “signature cocktail,” I’m not joking), Trump steaks, Trump Shuttle (an airline), Trump sneakers, Trumpy bear, Trump Model Management, GoTrump (his travel website), Trump Home (an “upscale” line of home furnishings), etc.
53. He’s a lifelong bigot and racist (1 of 25), initially coming to prominence by being sued for housing discrimination by the Justice Department in the 70’s and writing a fiery editorial about the Central Park 5, who were later proved innocent. He has still not admitted the CP5 are innocent.
54. When he owned beauty pageants, he reportedly told judges not to pick black winners and encouraged them to promote an Aryan ideal of beauty. The winners of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageant have become noticeably more diverse since he sold them.
55. His political profile for the Republicans got a huge boost by spreading the absolute lie of “Birtherism.” Similar to the Central Park 5, he has merely ducked the question of “Birtherism” instead of admitting he was absolutely full of it.
56. Trump’s initial election denialism actually started before he ever ran for politics, initially accusing the Mitt Romney/Barack Obama race of being “rigged” against Romney merely because he hated Obama so much.
57. He has had a notoriously awful relationship with civil rights advocates, repeatedly dumping on Maxine Waters, John Lewis, Congresswoman Federica Wilson, Ketanji Brown Jackson (using the coded language of “untrustworthy” towards her), Black Lives Matter leaders, black journalists, “wokeness,” and he’s prioritized pushing back on civil rights at every turn.
58. He has a specific hatred towards Critical Race Theory, Affirmative Action, and various Diversity initiatives, and has hated the latter two for years before he ever entered politics. While railing against affirmative action, he appears oblivious to his inherited advantage of getting 400 million dollars and a real estate empire from his father who started and grew the business.
59. He has repeatedly put down black voters by insisting they’re “living in hell,” making it sound as if their lives are only squalid ghettos, and repeatedly saying illegal immigrants are stealing “black jobs” as though these jobs are lesser. At recent rallies, he said this country is full of “trash” referring to immigrants, and even told a Detroit crowd that the whole country “would look like Detroit” if Kamala wins.
60. ”Vote for me…what have you got to lose?” to black voters, perhaps forgetting that they could lose their civil rights and freedoms completely as he’s shown no interest in protecting that with far-right judge picks and single-handedly trying to erase the Obama Presidency. His basic concept of black people’s lives is paradoxically that they appear to be atrocious, but that they don’t need actual programs like Affirmative Action or Diversity initiatives to improve their lives.
61. One of the only “progressive” things he did for black voters is fund HBCUs, but this has long been a priority for school-segregationists (like the Koch Brothers) who don’t want black students at majority white colleges, preferring to segregate them at HBCUs. This is also blatant in Trump’s prioritization of school voucher programs in K-12.
62. Numerous reports from “Apprentice” producers that he frequently used the N-word, as well as Omarosa confirming she’s heard him say this.
63. His long-standing dislike of black women (like encouraging judges not to pick them in beauty pageants) could be seen in Omarosa’s appointment as one of the only black women in the Trump White House, and coded, baseless attacks on Kamala’s intellect and “laziness,” even as she’s worked her butt off against him in just the few months she’s been President.
64. Similar to “Birtherism,” he’s tried to spread the outlandish smear that Kamala Harris didn’t “start” identifying as black until “a few years ago,” while paradoxically criticizing her for attending an AKA reunion during Netanyahu’s visit. Alpha Kappa Alpha is a black sorority which Harris attended at the HBCU of Howard, meaning she has been identifying as black her entire damn life.
65. Although he pretends to be supportive of Jewish people, he’s also said that Jewish people that don’t support him are ungrateful, and disloyal—as though they owe him something.
66. This attitude is even more mystifying considering his atrocious Charlottesville response (where white supremacists chanted “Jews will not replace us”). Trump said there were “very fine people on both sides.”
67. ”When the looting starts, the shooting starts,” even fanning the flames of racial tensions during the Floyd riots when he was hiding down in the White House bunker and a mob was rattling the WH gates.
68. Trump fanned the flames of racial division by endlessly attacking “Take a Knee” athletes, even sending Mike Pence on a fool’s errand to an NFL game so he could huff out of there when he saw the peaceful protest stance.
69. ”They’re eating the dogs! They’re eating the cats!” Trump spread this baseless lie and it has—predictably—made the lives of legal Haitian immigrants much harder than they already were…
70. This isn’t a one-off, as his 2016 campaign started with the assertion that Mexico was sending “rapists” into the country…
71. He’s also repeatedly said the lie that immigrants seeking asylum are literally coming from insane asylums this cycle.
72. Basing his entire 2016, 2020, and 2024 campaigns around xenophobia, “the border” horde, and kicking out illegal immigrants.
73. Although lying to his base that he’s strong on immigration, he has hypocritically blocked things like the bipartisan border bill that was set to pass congress earlier this year because he wanted to run against Joe Biden on the issue of immigration.
74. The Muslim ban trying to ban immigration from specific countries altogether…
75. That ban is in addition to wanting to ban immigration outright from “s*** hole” Caribbean and African countries, and half the Muslim ban countries were in Africa, rather than the Middle East…
76. In addition to wanting to ban immigration from majority-black nations altogether, he also wanted to get rid of the diversity immigration lottery, tried to cancel student visas for certain countries, wanted to change America’s asylum rules, wanted to end visas for tech workers, and generally trying to make legal immigration much harder…
77. All of the preceding were ways he tried to make legal immigration harder. Despite his cult’s frequent protests that Trump differentiates heavily between legal and illegal immigration, he actually doesn’t. He floated the idea of pausing legal immigration altogether, until they could “find out what the hell is going on” which sure sounds like forever…
78. As an extra bit of a—holery, Trump is a monster hypocrite on this issue since his 1st and 3rd wives are immigrants (Melania is the first true immigrant FLOTUS since Louisa Adams was born at a time when “the colonies” were still part of England), 4 out of 5 of his children wouldn’t exist without immigrants, and Trump himself is the product of immigration (his mother is from Scotland).
79. Trump is just generally a monster hypocrite, such as his own clothing line being offshored to Bangladesh and Mexico OR his own properties hiring illegal immigrant labor…
80. An example of extreme hypocrisy from just this season is pretending Kamala Harris is awful while he’s running against her, but he literally wrote her a campaign check in 2014—this was only a year before he started running for President as a Republican.
81. ”I could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and they’d still vote for me”—making it clear he gleefully enjoys seeing what he can get away with from his ever-accommodating base, viewing them as unbelievable suckers. Similar comments were made more recently when he himself acted surprised that his poll numbers went up after his indictments…
82. Along the lines of thinking his base are idiots, Trump has also said “I love the poorly educated,” and recently singled out a fan who had attended most of his rallies, saying “better dead than Biden, right?” This is asking his base to adopt a Jim Jones-level of devotion, making the “joke” that they’d rather die than vote for Biden. It is obvious he has contempt for his own cult.
83. He enjoys inciting others to commit violence on his behalf (1 of 5), like encouraging people at his rallies to attack protesters. “In the old days, he’d be taken out of here in a stretcher.”
84. The attack that almost killed Paul Pelosi was meant for Nancy Pelosi, who he has repeatedly threatened as “the enemy within,” making it obvious he plans to go after her and the opposition directly if reelected.
85. He has said Mike Pence “deserved it” when referring to the January 6th mob that wanted to kill him. It is impossible not to interpret this as encouraging political violence.
86. Numerous threats against the prosecutors who have indicted him and even the judges. He has repeatedly threatened bloodshed if he’s held accountable, saying his followers will commit violence if he’s indicted (it was obvious he wanted them to), convicted, or actually jailed.
87. (5 of 5) In addition to saying General Mark Milley should be executed for treason for the “high crime” of refusing to help him commit a coup.
88. An endless list of offensive statements that could be worthy of their own 100-item countdown, such as referring to Megyn Kelly’s period when dissing her or telling school shooter victims to “get over it” or mocking a disabled reporter. From the beginning of writing this to the end, there will probably be at least one additional offensive statement.
89. Obvious contempt for the military: Mocking John McCain’s service by dissing all prisoners of war, “suckers” and “losers” comments about veterans, inviting the Taliban to Camp David during 9/11, asking John Kelly “what was in it for them?” about veterans, and President Bone Spurs himself saying not getting an STD at Club 54 was his own personal Vietnam.
90. The first President to be impeached twice, and receive impeachment votes from his own party both times.
91. The first ex-President to ever be indicted of a crime, and the first one to ever have a mug shot.
92. Once would set a record, but he’s been indicted 90-odd times for four separate criminal cases. [Three of them completely unrelated to his two impeachments.]
93. He has repeatedly used his bros on the Supreme Court to squash these legal challenges well past the point of a constitutional crisis. In addition to the completely unrelated crime of all but admitting to obstruction of justice by dismissing FBI Director Comey for refusing to commit to not investigate “the Russia thing.”
94. The first ex-President to ever be convicted of a crime, as they got him on 34 counts. In an unprecedented display of privilege none of us would be entitled to, he was able to get the judge to push sentencing back until after the election despite being convicted 5 months prior.
95. Although Trump may pretend the previously mentioned indictments and convictions were politically motivated, he was the subject of almost 4,000 legal cases before he ever entered the White House.
96. Despite self-pitying cries of “political persecution,” Trump’s pattern of running afoul of the Justice Department stretches back to discrimination cases, IRS audits, and mob ties as early as the 1970’s.
97. First President to ever commit a coup attempt to hold onto power or I could just simply say “January 6th…”
98. AND Rather than hide his face in shame for the rest of his post-January 6th days and allow the Republican Party to finally move on, he immediately started holding de facto reelection rallies only a few weeks after leaving office (and at the height of CoVid). In addition, he has stalked Biden’s every move for years like lobbying hard for Republicans not to do a damn thing and vote “no” on every Biden bill like infrastructure or prioritizing American manufacturing. He was actively campaigning to make the country worse, so he would have an election advantage.
99. He has also bullied everyone that voted to impeach him out of the Republican party, and reshaped the party in his image (his daughter-in-law is RNC chair currently) so thoroughly, that even a Speaker of the House who resurrected him politically (Kevin McCarthy, the first major Republican to visit Trump at Mar-a-Lago after January 6th) was ousted for not being perceived as crazy enough for him.
100. People are honestly asking questions like “If Kamala Harris wins, will Mike Johnson certify the vote?” And a majority of House Republicans did not certify the 2020 election, with a huge swath of Republican voters believing “The Big Lie” that Trump won in 2020. That he is able to not only lie, but seemingly reshape reality for a huge part of the country is unprecedented.
This list is 100 things. If you read all this (and I doubt the people that need to read it actually will), and you still say “Yeah, but what else makes Trump an awful person?” then please locate the nearest sentient human being and ask them to punch you right in the face.
The worst fucking person in America just became President…waht could go wrong?
