The second half of the fourth season was painfully slow and scattershot, watching each of them aimlessly roam towards a sanctuary that we just knew was too good to be true. It made me feel like I was watching the worst stretch of episodes since season 2, and like the show just never really learns from its mistakes.
Well, that doubt was mostly gone in the roaring season five premiere which is one of the best episodes they’ve ever had. Rather than drag out the Terminus plot-line to an eventual escape and mayhem (probably somewhere around next year, knowing this show) they just got it all over with in one episode. It was genuinely exciting television and I enjoyed the stylish aspects of flashing back to how the Terminus people became the monsters they are.
Anyway, this show never has too many good episodes in a row, but I’m hoping they stay on this track. [If they ever move forward too much, comic creator Kirkman—who seems to put on the brakes if the show ever threatens to become good a.k.a. “too different from the comic”—will put the kibosh on that.] Fingers crossed.
