With this week’s cruise “disaster” in Italy, I’m thinking cruise lines will have to discount their prices for this upcoming year as some consumers will have a knee-jerk reaction of fear. But lightening rarely strikes twice folks and savvier customers will take advantage of the slashed prices, so keep checking prices over the next few weeks to get good deals.
Michelle Obama reacts to unflattering “The Obamas” book by saying she’s tired of being portrayed as an angry black woman. Jodi Kantor, the author of the book, says she has no idea what Michelle is talking about and then continues to tell nothing but negative stories about Michelle as a confrontational, shallow hothead.
With Jon Huntsman’s exit from the race and several others sure to drop out by this time next week, I’m wondering what Petty Issues will do from here on out for the “Asshole of the Week” segment since I had gotten lazily dependent on just picking one of the bozos running…Luckily, there are always celebrities…
Runner-Up Asshole of the Week: Tim Tebow. If I were a Denver Broncos fan, I would hate this guy. I would look at him and say “Why can’t you be like other SEC quarterbacks such as the Manning brothers? Nice, dependable guys that deliver on the field (okay, not always in Eli’s case) and shut the hell up off of it.” Tebow always has a way of blowing it in big moments but somehow his lack of skill is covered up by raging fundamentalist fans who love that Tebow basically acts like a knight during the crusades on the field and will scream bloody martyr if you diss him.
Asshole of the Week: Ricky Gervais. I know it’s surprising for me to pick a liberal atheist in this slot and I’m laughing at him and Tebow paired together but it just shows that you don’t have to be a Republican to be an asshole (but it sure helps). So all last year, Gervais patted himself on the back for making stale jokes about gay Scientologists and Robert Downey Jr. in rehab…then went everywhere swearing he’d do the same again…while also writing full page spreads in Entertainment Weekly “clarifying” his stale jokes as if there was some subtlety there…and this year he fully tanked it by performing more how he did the first time he hosted the Globes which was to make tamer jokes and self-promote…you guessed it…Ricky Gervais. Ten long years after he made 12 episodes of The Office, it’s time for Ricky to stop coasting on it and make something truly memorable again…either that or it’s time to re-evaluate his “legacy.”
And finally…Surprising (Non) Asshole of the Week: Rick Perry, for finally admitting to himself that he can’t win the nomination and dropping out of the race as he should have done the second he placed no better than 5th in Iowa. I still think he and Santorum should have dropped out a week ago and given Gingrich a better shot at Iowa but better a little late than a LOT late. I’d also like to pat myself on the back a little for accurately predicting that he would be next to drop out of the race in Tuesday’s article “Huntsman is Out. So What Are the Rest Waiting On?”
OMG – he was a joke
