Two documentaries about people who make their living up on a stage, and neither of them really worth watching…
La Bare…This documentary about male strippers was directed by Magic Mike co-star (and True Blood alum) Joe Manganiello. The problem is that it feels less real than Magic Mike and Manganiello doesn’t push the people he interviews enough. He mostly just lets them ramble on and talk about “the life” but we don’t really learn much we couldn’t have guessed. Skip this and watch Magic Mike instead. Grade: C-
Leave the World Behind…A documentary about the farewell tour of Swedish House Mafia. This is for their fans only, and since I’m not one…well, it was a little lost on me. It does a good enough job plugging you into the excitement of a techno-concert but the band never really comes across as compelling in the behind the scenes stuff. It just feels like their personalities are all a little too similar and not quite colorful enough. Grade: C-
