Hard to even remember anything about this movie, and it was only two weeks ago I saw it.
What Works: I did like that they spent a lot of time talking about drones and militarizing police forces and other issues that are relevant. So I liked that the movie at least made an effort.
What Doesn’t: Abbie Cornish and Joel Kinnamen (while good in other things) make a really generic screen pairing here. Michael Keaton deserves a comeback role but he just comes off strange hereā¦like a bad guy who’s really the best friend in a buddy comedy. Samuel L. Jackson’s few scenes as a Faux News-style blowhard are lively fun, but that only underscores how much better the diversions in this movie are from the main story. And the action felt impersonal to me, like I’m having a hard time recalling any big “wow” moments the way kids in the 80’s probably could tell you everything that happened in the original Robocop.
What I Would Have Done Differently: I’m not going to say that the original Robocop is such a masterpiece that it can’t be improved upon, but if you’re not even going to try, then why make this movie?
