I have been seriously slacking with my movie reviews. In hopes of “making it up to you” I’m going to post several reviews today for movies that may no longer be part of the conversation, but I did see them so…
What Works: This Josh Brolin/Kate Winslett romance involves an escaped felon played by Brolin hiding out with a slightly agoraphobic divorced mother played by Winslett, who was shattered when her husband left her. Winslett and Brolin have real heat, and it just reminds you that Brolin especially should be a much bigger star than he is, considering he can sell even the most outlandish situation.
What Doesn’t Work: This movie isn’t very good, BUT I would recommend watching it on a Sunday afternoon when it’s on basic cable. I think that’s probably the appropriate venue for it.
What I Would Have Done Differently: This is really the first movie of Jason Reitman (director of Up in the Air and Young Adult) that I’m not that big on, so maybe he should stick to comedies and leave the straight drama alone.
