The latest in the “Divergent” series is just killing time before the conclusion, and is yet another example in Hollywood’s questionable decision to keep splitting the final part of a Young Adult trilogy into two films. It’s never been necessary—from Twilight to Hunger Games—and it’s particularly obvious it’s not here, since we’re essentially watching half a film’s worth of action stretched out into two hours.
What Works: The problem is that only Jeff Daniels and Miles Teller look like they’re having any fun here, and so, naturally, their characters are the most morally dubious. This Young Adult equation of interesting character=villain is really getting old.
What Doesn’t: Someone will eventually figure out that you don’t need to completely wash any Young Adult heroes of personality traits, but until then we’re stuck with bland heroines and blander heroes in the different variations of this fantasy and/or dystopian formula.
What I Would Have Done Differently: I get tired of saying this, but there’s really no need to split the “final” series of anything into two parts over two years whether it’s quality AMC series for adults (Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Hell on Wheels) or YA books (Divergent, Hunger Games, Twilight). For every time it works (Breaking Bad), there are five times when the audience is tired of something by the time the end finally comes (pretty much every other example I just named).
I so agree about splitting the final season. It takes away so much and other than more money WTH?
I love all of the movies.
I personally love these movies, but none of them can beat Divergent. It sounds like they’re all going downhill.
I was interested in Divergent at first, but then it took too long for the movies to come out.
The movie was one of the best movies in the Divergent series. It was really good.
Splitting the movies in two are stupid. They have done it with so many movies and it just wastes peoples time and money. People stopped watching Twilight after they split it into two movies. If people stop watching one movie because of it why won’t they stop watching another?
I love all of the Divergent movies so far, but I wish it was one movie and not split into two.
I love all the movies, and i can’t wait to see this one!
good movie ive already watch dit
I love these movies but hate how they keep splitting them up.
Shouldn’t have been split up into two movies and want to see this movie
I fully agree with her, they shouldn’t split the final movies in two.
And I fully agree with Melody and Blaine they should not spilt the final movies in half.
It’s stupid that they are splitting up the final movies.
I hate how they are splitting up this movie
