Today is Thanksgiving, which means two things: 1. Most people are off work, which means they get to experience a day of doing whatever they want and getting paid whatever meager wage their company calls “holiday pay” (or, as bloggers call it, Thursday). 2. You probably aren’t looking to read a block of text. It is a holiday after all.
So, I’ll just get to my list in numbered sentence fragments rather than full paragraphs, but I doubt anyone will complain too much.
What I’m Thankful for…
1. Readers of this website. Seriously, truly, sincerely, you are great.
2. Readers of this website that click on ads. Seriously, you guys are the greatest.
3. Readers of this site that click on ads, and buy t-shirts. Forget about those other cheapos on 1 and 2, you guys are where it’s really at.
4. Barack Obama’s re-election, now here’s hoping for some real legislative victories, and the federal government taking a “See Nothing, Say Nothing” approach to newly marijuana-legal Colorado and Washington.
5. Newly marijuana-legal Colorado and Washington. I’ll never live in either of these states, and wouldn’t smoke weed if I did, but you guys are going to make a fortune off this decision.
6. Israel/Palestine for showing Americans that Republicans/Democrats are not the most feuding, senselessly hatred-filled people on the planet.
7. The Dark Knight Rises, Magic Mike, Hope Springs, The Campaign, Miss Bala, Chronicle, and especially Cloud Atlas, the “flop” movie that will be giving future generations something to think about if they’re lucky enough to discover it.
8. The overwhelming financial success of the book Gone Girl, showing that you can still have a blockbuster book that has nothing to do with vampires, young adults, WWII, or James Patterson.
9. Breaking Bad, for continuing its long march of excellence and climb into the ranks of the Greatest Shows of All Time. [To a lesser extent, The Good Wife, Fringe, Parenthood, and Sons of Anarchy are all enjoying their best seasons to date, while The Walking Dead has made a dramatic and unexpected rise in quality. Plus, Shark Tank, Parks and Recreation, and Mad Men are still going strong.]
10. And finally, I’m thankful for 2012 being 2012. I really can’t think of another time I’d rather be alive. Whether people appreciate it or (more often) not, this is the best time in history, and they should enjoy it…our ancestors certainly would love to have 500 channels and a wireless box that can transmit pictures of genitals.
I’m thankful for chop chop :)
