Once again, Alabama Liberal sets itself apart from most media as today I bring you no news of Whitney Houston and instead bring you actual news of events that will effect people.
Yesterday, Washington became only the 7th state in the country to allow people of the same-sex to marry each other, and I’m sure there are several million people in that state who couldn’t have asked for a better Valentine’s Day gift.
Washington is arguably the second largest state to allow gay marriage (after New York, natch, what’s taking so damn long California? you guys are seriously slacking in the progressive department) and just the latest sign that this is happening whether the Rick Santorum’s of the world like it or not.
It may take another hundred years for gay marriage to reach Alabama—-which I learned this past week didn’t officially reverse its ban on interracial marriages until 2000, 33 years after federal courts told them to—-but it will happen.
In the meantime, we just have to sit back and watch all the other blue states legalize it, then the purple states, then the red states that pretend to purple (looking at you Minnesota, Ohio, and Virginia), then the real red states, then Arizona, and finally Alabama. So congrats Washington and suck it Santorum!
California get with the program already
