So Earth Day was this past Sunday and it really got me thinking about all of the environmental issues most people ignore on a daily basis (climate crisis, ground soil pollution, and over population to name but a few). But what about the issue that even some environmentalists aren’t that crazy about sermonizing on?
You guessed it: trash.
Garbage just doesn’t have the same sex appeal that ooh-la-la global warming does and I myself can feel my eyes glaze over whenever somebody begins to talk about it. But I shouldn’t, and therefore you shouldn’t, because it truly is a big deal.
I know that with the possible extinction of fish, gradually degrading air quality, and a planet on the endangered species, it’s a little hard to care about mountains of trash in China or a floating island of plastic in the Pacific where all the junk in our ocean is carried by tidal currents, but we should care. For one reason: an entirely accidental island of plastic in the Pacific because we toss that much shit overboard!
So recycle and reuse and reclean or whatever else you need to do, because if there’s scarcely enough room for our planet’s 7 billion human inhabitants, how much room can there really be for our discarded milk cartons?
