There seems to be some confusion in the media about whether Paramount’s desire to please an aspiring tyrant like Trump had anything to do with their shocking decision to cancel “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” which has been on the air since 1993, but only become number 1 in the ratings under Colbert, and for the past 8 years.
Well, let me educate you…
—Trump is extremely thin-skinned and sensitive towards any media criticism of him whatsoever, and has said multiple times he hopes CBS cancels Stephen Colbert. As recently as last year, Trump said he hopes CBS “terminates Colbert’s contract,” which is exactly what just happened.
—Paramount is trying to get bought by a company that should not be buying it (Skydance is smaller than Paramount, and the money is actually coming from another private equity business killer, Redbird Capital) and that David Ellison—nepo baby stooge of Larry Ellison, Trump’s Oracle-owning buddy—will be running.
—Trump has already said he thinks David Ellison “will do a great job” running Paramount Global, which means he expects him to muzzle content and do stuff like this.
—Paramount has already paid him a 16 million dollar bribe hoping to make the merger go through, and Colbert criticized that as recently as this week before the shocking announcement was given. “The Late Show” has been on the air since 1993, and has been number #1 in the ratings only under Colbert in the past few years, but CBS suddenly can’t justify keeping the show on the air anymore? …Oh yeah, I don’t smell a fish at all…
—This is yet another person pushed out of CBS/Paramount at a time that is extremely suspicious like the recent resignation of Bill Owens, the “60 Minutes” executive producer who said he’s being pressured to change content on the long running news program.
—In case all this isn’t obvious enough, Trump himself is even celebrating the news of Colbert’s cancellation all over social media, and is saying Seth Meyers and Jimmy Kimmel are next.
–Trump’s desire to muscle in on ALL media content could be evidenced the same day as the Colbert cancellation since he forced congress to clawback money that had already been appropriated towards PBS/NPR.
I’m sorry, but you’d have to be in a coma not to see the political fingerprints all over this, and EVERYONE who lives in a free society should be scared to see this happening.
