Another day, another Democratic Debate dodge…
6:00…They started with forums, and now they’ve moved onto “Town Halls.” What’s next, cocktail parties?
6:20…Quick highlights of Bernie talking for 20 straight minutes: Anderson Cooper asked him how he’ll get his plans through congress, and he talked about a “political revolution” that had nothing to do with how he would really get things done. He has only done this 1000 times.
6:22–Bernie asked about racist policing, and cites his experience as mayor of Burlington, Vermont, a town that is 90 percent WHITE. He has done this 100 times as well…
6:24–Anderson Cooper blowjobs him on stage over his record as a Civil Rights protestor. I wonder if he’ll do the same for Hillary’s youthful activism? I doubt it…
6:26–Asked about veterans, and talks about a veteran’s bill he sponsored…that most people have never heard of, not to mention that Veteran’s Rights isn’t exactly anti-Republican.
6:29–Gets asked a question from the audience about how he can work around Republican congress to get anything done.
6:36–Goes into his stump speech AGAIN.
6:37–This guy needs a better answer for this question, or he can keep relying on the “youth vote” that has never had a Civics class and maybe doesn’t know the President isn’t 100% in charge of America.
6:38–Asked about his age. Subtitle: “How can you live another four years to be president?”
6:40–Bernie says he’s never run a negative ad…as he goes into a litany of things he doesn’t like about Hillary Clinton.
6:45–Once again they ask him about his electability, and he goes into a stump speech. This guy has ten sentences. He also quotes a poll the New York Times did that says he could beat Donald Trump easier than Hillary could. Because, you know, polling primary voters a year out from the race is a great indicator of that.
6:53–Anderson Cooper asks Bernie what kind of car he drives…because that’s something we can’t live without.
6:54–Anderson is asking him various puff-piece questions, including what he thinks of Larry David’s impression of him.
6:55–Whew…
6:56–We’re done with Bernie, and Hillary will be taking the stage after the commercial break. What kind of lame-ass debate doesn’t have the candidates face each other–oh right, “town hall.”
7:02–Anderson addresses Bernie’s claim that he’s the underdog in New Hampshire despite being double-digit points ahead.
7:04–Hillary gets asked why young women don’t support her. Mentions that Hillary lost young female voters in Iowa by huge margin. Well, we all know that young women activists are too busy with big picture things like Game of Thrones rape scenes or Ricky Gervais jokes to care about America’s first female president.
7:10–Hillary gets asked about Supreme Court picks, and it’s horrifying to think that 2 to 3 justices could be chosen by a Republican if Dems lose the White House.
7:14–A voter asks her about national security and her interventionist global policy. She refuses to coddle him with easy rhetoric. “Can you guarantee me you won’t use the military?” “No, I can’t Michael.” But she does go into an in-depth, nuanced answer.
7:22–“How are you going to defend yourself against rightwing attacks?” “I’ve had a lot of practice.” EXACTLY
7:25–She goes into a little bit about all the rightwing attacks on her over the years.
7:26–Anderson asks about rightwing conspiracy, and she explains it in a nuanced way. Talking about conservative “philanthropists” who get their picture made when they donate a million dollars while secretly planning to cut billions in benefits.
7:29–A rabbi asks her a rambling, overly abstract question about ego or some such shit. Hillary’s response, laughing a little: “What a great question!” Subtitle: “Can you believe this shit?”
7:31–Clinton is forced to pretend she’s religious.
7:34–Why do Democrats still have to pretend they’re religious? Even Bernie does the song and dance.
7:35–Someone asked “Would a question about ego and humility ever be asked to a male candidate?” I don’t know, but it sure wasn’t asked to them.
7:42–Hillary talks about Bernie just focusing on banks instead of more widespread financial fraud.
7:51–Hillary is asked about how to win over young people, like the question asker’s daughters. She basically says that she doesn’t want to overpromise like Bernie has, and wants to be honest about what she can accomplish.
7:52–What Hillary is saying right now is the difference between “revolution” rhetoric and actually getting shit done through a GOP congress.
7:57–Hillary is a boring, wonkish technocrat, and I have come to really value that over wannabe revolutionaries like Occupy Wall Street.
