A few months back I posted a list of Most Anticipated and Least Anticipated Fall Movies, and it’s time to see exactly how well I predicted which movies were worth anticipating…
The Ten Least Anticipated Movies…
10. I Saw the Light…Right or Wrong? Wellllllll…the movie was bumped from an Oscar-prime slot in late Fall until the early part of this year, so that’s roughly the same as a vote of no confidence.
9. The Intern…Right or Wrong? It did okay at the box office, but only 60 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. I didn’t even see it.
8. Alvin and The Chipmunks: Road Trip and Hotel Transylvania…Right or Wrong? Right.
7. Black Mass…Right or Wrong? Critics loved it, but Depp was snubbed for an Oscar nomination, a Globe nomination, and I personally didn’t like the movie.
6. Paranormal Activity 6 and Rings…Right or Wrong? Rings was bumped from being released (never a good sign) and Paranormal Activity died at the box office and with it its critical consensus.
5. By the Sea…Right or Wrong? Right. The movie died at the box office and hasn’t scored any real critical awards.
4. Pan…Right or Wrong? Definitely right. The movie had poor reviews and even worse box office costing Warner Brothers a lot of money.
3. The Last Witch Hunter…Right or Wrong? Right. It sucked.
2. London Has Fallen…Right or Wrong? We won’t know for sure until it’s released but it certainly looks terrible.
1. Victor Frankenstein…Right or Wrong? Definitely right. Nobody even remembers this movie being released.
The Five Movies I’m Not So Sure About…
5. Snowden…Right or Wrong? We won’t know until it’s released later this year, but it’s not a vote of confidence that they moved it back from an Oscar-prime slot.
4. 13 Hours…Right or Wrong? Definitely right. Lousy reviews and piss poor box office.
3. Joy…Right or Wrong? Technically, I was right since “Joy” underperformed at the box office, and juuuuust barely passed Rotten Tomatoes with a 60% approval rating (it was rotten for a long time). But I actually really liked the movie, so I was right and wrong.
2. The Hateful Eight…Right or Wrong? Sadly, I was right. Although I didn’t want to be.
1. Hunger Games 4 and Stars Wars 7…Right or Wrong? Right about The Hunger Games 4, and wrong about Star Wars 7 only in the sense that most people seem to think it’s a good movie, but I personally wasn’t in love with it.
Annnnnnnnnnd…
The Ten Most Anticipated Movies
10. Rock the Kasbah…Right or Wrong? Dead wrong. Not great reviews, and it was out of theaters so fast that I didn’t even get to see it.
9. Trumbo/Steve Jobs…Right or Wrong? Right on both counts. Man, I really should spread the “Right” picks out more instead of lumping them together on one, because eight is about to get ugly…
8. Our Brand is Crisis…Right or Wrong? Dead wrong. Sandra Bullock’s lowest grossing movie in years, and poorly reviewed.
7. Sicario and Beasts of No Nation…Right or Wrong? Right on both counts. Like I said, I shouldn’t be clumping the “Right” picks.
6. Crimson Peak and Room…Right or Wrong? Mildly right on “Crimson Peak” since it was pretty good, and definitely right on “Room” since it was one of the best movies of 2015, a best picture nominee, and one of my personal favorites.
5. The Martian…Right or Wrong? Technically right, as this movie is critically beloved, nominated for Best Picture, and made over 200 million dollars. Still, I wasn’t all that crazy about it, and thought it was merely okay.
4. The Good Dinosaur…Right or Wrong? Right. I liked it, no matter how many others didn’t.
3. Truth/Concussion/Spotlight…Right or Wrong? Right. I loved “Spotlight” and so has every critic who’s seen it. Mildly right about “Concussion” which most people like. And even if most didn’t see “Truth,” I liked it.
2. Spectre…Right or Wrong? Sadly, wrong. I actually didn’t enjoy this movie as much as I hoped I would, although most critics did like it.
1. The Revenant…Right or Wrong? Absolutely right. I loved it, and I’m shocked—really, flat-out shocked—at how well it’s doing at the box office.
