Like “At Middleton,” this is a gentle romance, but unlike that film the two leads here are a wildly inappropriate match as Guy Pearce’s music teacher develops an “interest” in the musical-virtuoso/British exchange student that’s come to live with him, his more extroverted teenage daughter (star on the rise Mackenzie Davis), and his wife (Amy Ryan). Felicity Jones is great as the anti-Lolita, a girl’s whose own not-yet-fully-formed talent could serve as a catalyst to a middle-aged guy haunted by not yet achieving his full potential. Still, the movie is light on action (no pun intended), and there’s only so compelling a movie about being thwarted can be, but the performances are worth the time it would take to watch. Grade: B
