This movie is shockingly good. Maybe it’s saying something that the best movie in the first two months of the year is an animated film that exists solely to sell children’s toys.
What Works: It’s got the best script of any of the movies I’ll review today. It’s lively and witty and just all around intelligent. Even as I’m writing this praise, I keep waiting for someone to slap me because I would have thought there was no way this movie would be good.
What Doesn’t: The fact that I’m actually heaping praise on a corporate shill of a movie tie-in. I kind-of hate myself, but I would also probably watch it again.
What I Would Have Done Differently: There’s a twist at the very end of the movie, and although I appreciate the originality and daring, the live-action scenes might drag on a little too long.
