This “movie” is really bits and pieces of the Cirque Du Soleil shows in Vegas, all strung together with the thinnest of plots. Basically, there’s a girl, and there’s a guy, and they are in loooooooooooove or something like that, but they are “separated” by the Cirque worlds they have to get through to be together. All of that sounds pretty cool, but trust me, it’s a lot more confusing and awkwardly staged than what I just described.
What Works: There’s no denying that even if you’ve seen a lot of the Cirque shows (and I have) there’s still something a little magical in watching someone splash through the O water tank or fight along the Ka rotating wall or do…well, whatever it is they’re doing in the Beatles show.
What Doesn’t Work: The staging is awkward and a little dull after a while. The “plot” never meshes or fully integrates with the set pieces, with the “lead” character just awkwardly standing off to the side for much of the movie, while a ten minute section of O plays out. Plus, there’s really no sensible structure from jumping from O to Ka to Elvis to The Beatles, the sequences don’t link up together in any satisfying way.
What I Would Have Done Differently: I thought they would show NEW set-pieces for us to enjoy, and stage, you know, an actual movie instead of what is really just a clip package. Plus, why do they only show the Vegas shows when American audiences are most likely to have seen those? Why not show us some of the Cirque shows in Europe?
Like the real shows(Vegas) but very expensive. Wish more people could afford to see the shows.
It was boring, expecially if you have seen the real shows.
