For those that don’t know, Allen West is a congressman from Florida. He’s part of the Tea Party, he’s one of the most aggressively partisan members of the House Republicans, he’s one of only a handful of black Republicans in congress, and he’s a former defense contractor/torturer that makes Herman Cain look like a nice guy.
For those that do know, he is also now an EX-congressman that recently lost his congressional seat to Patrick Murphy. He lost, there’s really no way around the fact that he lost, but West refuses to concede. He’s demanding a recount for one specific county (one where his opponent did better) but not all of them…And yet the vote difference is at 0.6 percent, not 0.5 or less (which is where Florida automatically triggers a recount).
I guess I’m just not seeing a plan here. West must know that there’s almost no way he can win this race. Maybe he doesn’t, but someone close to him should. Somewhere in his inner circle, must be a campaign manager or chief of staff or aid that can speak honestly with him, and they must say something along the lines of “Geez, it sure sucks that the Democrats ‘stole’ another one, but there’s just no way we can pull this out. Sucks for us. We should run again next time.”
Because it’s looking like Allen isn’t going to step down until he gets the answer he wants, but it’s also looking (increasingly) like he’s just not going to get that answer. Short of saying “Allen West! You won! Despite actually losing by 2,500 votes, you really won!” It’s not looking like anything will placate him, at which point, the question becomes “Is Allen West going to pull a third-world dictator move and just not step down?” And what measures are in place to force a congressman down?
Maybe he has some master plan I’m just not getting, and I’m just a fool not capable of working on his level. Because I’ll sure admit that I am really not getting it right now.
