As I pointed out yesterday, this marks the one year anniversary of Alabama Liberal. And what better way to celebrate than to look back on the last year and detail what Working Class Economist has learned…
Lesson 1: Rich people suck.
Lesson 2: That is all.
No, but in all seriousness there were just a few lessons I picked up that I can share.
5. The interest on debt is 15 percent, but the interest on savings is .00005 percent. If you have 3k in credit card debt and 3 grand in savings, you will be broke forever.
4. If a man (cough, Romney, cough) has money stashed out everywhere BUT America—-Cayman Islands, Swiss bank accounts, etc.—-he shouldn’t be President of the United States.
3. Government jobs are STILL jobs. Nothing pisses me off worse than when ideological conservative idiots totally dismiss any government job layoffs (teachers, firefighters, cops, city planners, basically anyone who has a decent retirement or health insurance) because those layoffs aren’t part of the “private sector” and therefore don’t count. Uhhh, right, because I’d rather work at McDonald’s than have a job with benefits.
2. The only thing that trickles down is debt. “Trickle Down Economics” is wrong. I know, I know, it must seem shocking that giving rich people money doesn’t automatically put money in the hands of poor people in a global economy where rich people can spend money anywhere. What Trickle Down Economics does do is swamp the country in debt because rich people aren’t paying the tax rate they should. Sorry Reagan.
1. Outsourcing will ruin America. We’ve heard a lot about “America’s Downfall” and exactly what will bring it on. Iran? Not unless we’re dumb enough to get into another pre-emptive war. Al-Qaeda? Not unless we invade Afghanistan the Hopeless Country twice. North Korea? Could be, but only if China gets involved. China itself? Most likely, not in the way you think, but because we’ve sent them all of our manufacturing jobs. By outsourcing any decent paying job where you don’t need a graduate degree, America is dooming its middle and lower classes to a future worse than the one they inherited.
Outsourcing already did ruin America. We neeed to bring back manufacturing.
