Cable has made the old days of summer being a TV wasteland irrelevant. In some ways, I might even prefer it because there are fewer “in-between” shows to watch (Grimm, Person of Interest, etc.) and just a handful of great ones to watch.
Not Done Yet: Even though Game of Thrones ended their season last night, NBC’s Hannibal (quite possibly the best horror show ever done on broadcast TV) has a couple episodes left as does AMC’s Mad Men.
5. Honorable Mention: Dexter’s final season begins June 30th. Sure, the show hasn’t been truly good for a few seasons, but who isn’t curious to see how things will wrap up?
4. Low Winter Sun…AMC’s new drama should be worth at least checking out. All their new shows deserve a chance.
3. The Bridge…The same could be said for FX’s new dramas. Plus, this mystery thriller set on the Mexican border has the terrific Damian Bichir headlining it.
2. The Newsroom…I know critics were divided on the first season of HBO’s (supposedly pedantic) drama but those critics were wrong. This show is quality and it doesn’t deserve to be the red-headed stepchild of HBO’s lineup.
1. Breaking Bad…The best show on television’s final 8 episodes. Will Hank bring down his brother-in-law? Will Jesse make it out alive? What will be Walter White’s ultimate fate? How many times will I watch each episode?
